Light of Faith Christian Academy's mission is to lead children in academic, personal, and moral excellence.

Through individualized education, we build character, strengthen faith, and foster the pursuit of discovery through a lifelong passion for learning.

Elementary

Grades K-5

Whether having the opportunity to start in Little lamb Academy or transferring from an outside program, the elementary years at LFCA work with children to develop a strong core understanding. If early learning is the foundation, elementary is the walls. Some of these walls are:

· Develop reading fluency and comprehension

· Develop strong arithmetic and foundational math skills.

· Develop a core understanding of science skills across the fields of study: biology, chemistry, astronomy, physics, and physical sciences.

· Develop a core understanding of social studies: geography, history, leadership, and community.

Middle School

Grades 6-8

The secondary years mark a shift in focus for students. As adolescent maturity develops, their daily program follows suit, and their coursework begins to be tailored toward the exploration of future career pathways. Each child will participate in a career inventory and lab, where they learn about different types of jobs and careers around the world.

The daily schedule also changes from an individual period schedule to a block schedule, promoting more focused study opportunities in each subject.

Middle school can be a challenging time for a lot of students, and having a warm, healthy, and positive student culture really makes LFCA a great place to learn during these formative years.

Students who excel and meet necessary prerequisites will have opportunities to take High School courses early, and jump-start their Graduation Plans.

High School

Grades 9-12

As students begin working with more advanced concepts, they also begin applying age-appropriate skills to foster independence, responsibility, and learning management.

This prepares them for a College-Preparatory or Honors graduation track, High-Credit plans which offer an advantage when entering Colleges and Universities.

In total, LFCA has five distinct graduation pathways, to fit the academic profiles and life goals of each student as an individual. Additionally, students and parents work directly with the Administrative and Pastoral team to collaboratively execute a unique graduation plan.

High Schoolers at LFCA develop executive function skills (organization, planning, time management, etc.) and participate in community service activities, effectively becoming both current and future community leaders.

S.T.A.R. Program

STEM Rocketry

LFCA Honors students have the opportunity to apply their learning in the STEM fields through LFCA’s STAR program. S.T.A.R. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Rocketry) is an extra-curricular program for advanced students who show aptitude in the fields of science and/or engineering.

In STAR, students:

-learn about the science, technology, design, and history, and principles of rocketry.

-Learn to use professional design software and physical tools to plan, design, construct, and wire functional scale model rockets

-Use testing, experimentation, and data analysis to refine designs and plan for competition-level builds.

Early Learning

Grades Ps-Pk

Our early learning partner, Little Lamb Academy, is an individualized early childhood education program which develops students intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically—through hands-on, innovative teaching methods– to foster well-rounded children for lifelong success.

Children are taught through a tiered and personalized curriculum which uses a variety of teaching methods to engage the different learning style of each learner. We strive for students to succeed not just intellectually, but in character, life, and overall growth.

Students at all levels have a number of elective and extracurricular courses that supplement and broaden their scope of study throughout the year.

Field Trips, home projects, and summer camp also help personalize and contextualize learning in the real world.

Success Strategies

Independent Study

Children at LFCA receive individualized instruction. This means that each child’s curriculum is independently shaped to suit the needs of the student and challenge him/her to grow. Rather than “feeding” the content of lessons through standard lectures, children engage with worktext and comprehension activities, literature, videos, projects, hands-on experiments, and opportunities to develop and discover on their own. This model puts the student at the center of his education, not the teacher. This develops his sense of efficacy and capacity for learning through his own independent research and discovery.

Guided Support

LFCA’s format also shifts the role of the instructor from a winded lecturer to that of a guiding inspiration, coach, and tutor.

Individual attention, progress tracking, custom testing and one-on-one lessons are just some of the ways that the instructors of LFCA help their students achieve their full potential.

Goal Setting

Students at LFCA learn the life skills of organization, goal-setting, and time management. They learn to visually track their progress in both short and long-term objectives as they learn, feeling the weight of a missed deadline and the satisfaction of accomplishing a task ahead of schedule. This is accomplished through a daily goal card, daily homework slip, and year-long quarterly progress chart. LFCA also has two-fold integrated rewards and reinforcement program. The Merit program, which uses a token currency, and the Student of the Week Program. Together, these motivate students to not only meet the minimum effort required, but strive for excellence.

Assessment-Driven

Students at all levels all receive a series of tests and assessments administered throughout the school year. These include quizzes, formative tests, and summative assessments.

Because we are individualized, a student’s test scores will be used for real-time evaluation of his learning and prompt any additions, review, or acceleration to his program to ensure that each student is free of learning gaps, while being challenged by -and engaged with– his course of study.
