Pioneers of the Future
LFCA Honors students have the opportunity to apply their learning in the STEM fields through LFCA’s STAR program. S.T.A.R. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Rocketry) is an extra-curricular program for advanced students who show aptitude in the fields of science and/or engineering.
Advanced STAR students make up STAR TEAM, which for the first time in 2025 made its debut entry to TARC (The American Rocketry Competition.

Taking S.T.E.M. to the skies

STAR gives students the opportunity to cultivate advanced level STEM skills in ways that align with the aspirational pursuits of the next generation of scientists. By combining theory with practice, students learn to apply these skills in practical and physical ways that push the limits of their creativity, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning.
Our 11-14 year olds are competing with High School Juniors and Seniors on the National Stage. Through LFCA's individualized academic approach, we help students pursue their full potential.
In STAR, students:
-learn about the science, technology, design, and history, and principles of rocketry.
-Learn to use professional design software and physical tools to plan, design, construct, and wire functional scale model rockets
-Use testing, experimentation, and data analysis to refine designs and plan for competition-level builds.

The skills learned in STAR translate to a variety of life applications and careers.
While previous generations experienced digital technology as a set of tools or supplements, the next generation of learners will experience technology as an integrated part of their living experience.
Tech and science drives innovation, discovery, economics, news, and business in the modern world.

“STEM education helps students:
>thrive in a tech-driven world that is changing how students learn, connect, and interact
>develop and practice critical thinking skills
>Get more interested and excited about learning
>Practice skills valued in a knowledge-based economy “
